Lindsey Majors; Help with that Crucial First Impression and a Great Haircut!

Lindsey Majors - Before Haircut"Can I get a witness?" the voice exhorts from the receiver of my phone and I know immediately it's my friend and hair stylist at Eileene Kelley Salon, Lindsey Majors! She calls me every 3-4 months to remind me that I "might" need a haircut. The reason for her church on fire exclamation is that (she claims) when my hair begins to bush out like a tumbleweed shaped helmet, I begin to look disturbingly like Jimmy Swaggart. It's true, I don't get my hair cut all that often and Lindsey also says that if all of her clients were like me, she would probably be forced to take a second job ;-) Besides being an accomplished stylist, Lindsey has a marvelous sense of humor and an opinion that she gladly shares with her clients!

It's true, I come from a generation where many of us did not cut our hair. In the early 70's up through the mid 80's, my hair hung below my shoulders at varying lengths and was always L O N G! Thankfully most of the pictorial evidence from those years is long gone! These days I TRY and get a haircut before Lindsey calls and usually about the time my fellow associates begin referring to me as Papa Hemingway. We've been doing this dance for the last eight years and I have to say I am a completely satisfied customer! As a matter of fact, my entire family now has their hair done by Lindsey along with several very good friends! Lindsey Majors is truly an accomplished artist and craftsman when it comes to anything that has to do with hair! And as just about everyone knows a hairstylist is also a something of  a "shade tree" psychologist, confidant and gossip columnist all rolled in to one. Lindsey is all of these but in such a wonderfully genuine way that when you are in her chair, you feel relaxed and comfortable! Whenever I am there I see all kinds of clients from little blue haired ladies to housewives, kids, teenagers, Rock Stars, Famous Chefs and both men and women professionals covering the gamut of personalities in Austin, Texas.

Lindsey Majors - After Haircut

It's obvious that I am a fan of Lindsey Majors along with many people I know but don't just take my word for it! When she was at another Salon in Lakeway, she was consistently chosen the top hair stylist several years in a row. The best evidence I can offer is the BEFORE and AFTER pictures on this page showing my transformation from "Wild Man of Borneo" to respectable member of society. It's true that you only have one chance to make a good first impression and if you are thinking of trying out a new hair stylist, I would recommend calling Lindsey at: 512-789-0559. She does not have a web site, Facebook page or Twitter handle but stays incredibly busy through word of mouth and referrals and she is helping us all live The Good Life in Austin Texas! When you visit, know that she is probably going to be working on several clients at the same time but Lindsey Majors is a great multi-tasker and I guarantee you will enjoy the experience as well as the way you look when you leave the Salon. And so will those around you;-)

Check out Lindsey Majors and give her a call:

My brother in law is a barber.  Nothing beats the haircut or two, shave, touch up and good conversation.

kind of like Floyds on Andy Griffth. Grab a beer from the backroom.

Russell:  A great hair stylist is something to keep in your rolodex.  I am loyal to mine in Gainesville, VA.  Ever since she has been cutting my hair, I don't have to use anything in it to make it look nice.  I barely have to style it in the morning.  That's a talent in my book.

Posted by Chris Ann Cleland, GRI, SFR (Long & Foster, Gainesville, VA) 5 days ago

I love the before pic.  I actually think you should keep it that way.  I loved this story because I always joke I never want to make my hair stylist mad because I've told her everything about me sitting in that chair over the years.

Russell, the before and after are enough to get Lindsay a LOT of new business! LOL

Posted by Connie Harvey Realtor Nashville TN Real Estate (Prudential Woodmont Realty) 5 days ago

Oh my goodness Russell, you have such a great sense of humor! Lindsey must be a remarkable person if she can get a word in edge wise with you ;-)

So funny!  I get my haircut every two weeks.  Standing appt!

Posted by Chris Alston (Keller Williams Realty, Cupertino California) 5 days ago look like a wild man for sure!  The before and after shots are great....Lindsey Majors sounds like a movie star name!!

Ross Years ago I frequented a traditional barber shop and this place has sort of the same feel but a lot less talk about sports ;-)

Chris Ann I completely agree and "styling is not my thing. I just "wash & wear" and she keeps me looking good! (more or less)

Jennifer The before pic is pretty much how I wake up every day!

Connie I am fortunate that she can do a lot with very little ;-D

Allysoun As difficult as it might be to imagine, Lindsey can hold her own with anyone and still manage to do a great job at the same time!

Chris I am sure Lindsey would like for me to come in on a more regular basis and at this point I am shooting for every other month instead of waiting 3 or 4 months!

Rebecca Even without the unruly hair I am sometimes referred to as a "wild man"...but you already knew that!

Charlie HA HA! Good one. Actually when I wait this long my hair is just unruly on its own!

Russsell: You do look great. I just have bad hair. No matter how often I get it cut, it still is a crazy, curly mop (which apparently many folks covet). May have been okay at age 5, but now not quite a great.

Russell, what a great tribute to Lindsey. I just think you wanted YOUR photos in this post LOL. You look GREAT, but that's Lindsey's doings....

Dear Russell,

I loved the before and after photos. In the first one you look like you just sped down MOPAC doing 100MPH in a convertible. Lindsey is a miracle worker to make you look like the suave debonair guy in second photo! WOW! What a transformation.

Posted by Betina Foreman-Serving Lake Travis, Lake Austin and the greater Austin area! ((512)771-6318 Keller Williams Real Estate) 5 days ago

From the looks of that first photo, Lindsey isn't just a hair stylist. She's a miracle worker too!!!!

Fun post Russell!

Hi Kristen Thanks, I usually try to make a post a little different. Thanks for stopping by!

Debi Why thank you and yes, Lindsey is something of a miracle worker!

Melissa have great hair and you are correct, many women pay a lot of money to have that look ;-)

Gary Well...the first pic was so funny and in the second she actually made me look presentable so...Your RIGHT!

Jane Drab to FAB! I like that!

Susan You crack me up and yes several people refer to me that way at my office when I start looking wooly (or gain a few lbs.)

Betina Good to see you! Yes, with the top down it takes quite a bit of wrk to tame the mane ;-)

Craig You are so right, Lindsey should be dubbed a Saint by whoever is in charge of hair these days ?!?!?

Hey Russell,

What a fun post and I sure hope you're a really BIG tipper when it comes to Lindsey! Seems to me like you may be putting Lindsey on the map as an outstanding Austin hair stylist, she sounds like such a great person...and wow what a photo!

Btw, I have someone I depend on too (and I have for a long time) when it comes to my hair. One time he even shaved my head bald for me when my 5-year old granddaughter lost her hair during chemo.

You wear the the 'wild man' look and the 'civilized look' just fine Russell :)

I sure would like to see some of those pictures from the 70's!!

You may have to go with the Team Rasta "wild look" for the Cap10 this Sunday... although, your clean cut would be much more appropriate for the Tie Died Family look!

Russell, I just checked back in to see the funny comments that always seem to go along with your funnier posts and these are as good as always!

I am SO grateful to have met you AFTER your long hair days! Actually here you look a little like Albert Einstein--you know, that wild, frightened look. Otherwise the resemblance ends there.

Posted by Suzy Juncker 4 days ago

How funny!  I commend you for publishing the before picture!  I don't think you will find too many women who would do the same!  A good stylist is priceless, but one who actually calls to remind you it's time...pretty impressive!

Posted by Sharon Tara New Hampshire Home Stager (Sharon Tara Transformations) 4 days ago

Kay Thanks, in the hands of an accomplished artist like Lindsey, a good haircut can make all the difference in the world!

Liz Thanks, I really owe her and she also does the hair for everyone in our family!

Hi John Yeah, end she did not even have to use a weed-eater ;-)

Lynda We always take care of Lindsey because she takes such good care of us. BTW I really liked your comment about having your head shaved for your granddaughter, I hope she is okay now!

Terry That's cool to have a family connection, does she give you a discount?

Hi Gita I hope so, though she stays busy, she can always use more business!

Dorie Absolutely and you are right I DO need to get in to see her more often!

Bill When I first got home and saw the picture, I cracked up too!

Jeff Thanks, I do like to add a little humor to my Localism posts and you are right, I am going to T R Y and make an appointment every couple of months. little steps ;-)

Posted by Russell Lewis, Broker,CLHMS,GRI (AvenueOne Properties, Austin Texas Real Estate) 4 days ago

That is so sweet. If I'd had clients like you when I was doing nails, I might still be doing it.
It was great to see you.
Always a trip.

You know Russell, I always love before and after photos! LOL  and I love this post, it sounds like Lindsey is a great stylist and friend who is interested in not letting you run about looking like Jimmy Swaggart!  I see a lot of men from our generation that still don't cut their hair - but for the most part, I think I'm over the pony tailed gray haired look! :-)

Posted by Mary Douglas, REALTOR ®, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado (United Country Ponderosa Realty) 4 days ago

Lindsey sounds like someone I would want to know if I were in Austin.  'Just had a haircut myself today but fortunately have no "before" pictures to share... they weren't pretty.  Yours isn't either, but at least it's entertaining.

Russell - It's obvious that Lindsey is very good at her craft.  The pictures are definitely worth a 1000 words.

Well for sure the before and after pictures do speak volumes and you are lucky to have a stylist who can keep up with you or as you mentioned, has no problem holding her own with anybody. You are a good story teller ;-)
